Arts Integration is an approach to teaching that integrates fine arts content and objectives along with the content and objectives of traditional subjects, such as language arts, math, and science. Arts integration makes learning a hands on, enriching experience for students which results in greater understanding and meaning. An arts integrated classroom is an exciting and welcoming place to learn.
Tupelo Public School District has a long running partnership spanning over 25 years with Mississippi Arts Commission and the Whole School Initiative which embraces an arts integrated approach to instruction. Our Pre-K through 8th grade schools currently engage in arts integration training throughout the year and benefit from the artists residencies provided through MAC. Thomas Street Elementary currently serves as Model of Arts Integration for the state. TPSD values the arts and recognizes that it is a critical piece to a whole and well rounded education.
