TPSD Focus Week 2: Growing Healthy Waves

Growing Healthy Waves' mission is to change the taste palates of Tupelo Public School District students so they feel confident and comfortable eating fresh, nutrient-rich foods. Students are involved in gardening, trying new foods in the cafeteria and making connections with locally-sourced fruits and vegetables. This past year, students at Filmore had their first Farmer's Market and raised enough money to replenish all the gardens. The driving force behind this program is long-time educator Donna Loden and Chasiti McGhee. They go above and beyond in assisting students to make healthy eating choices. TPSD Focus Week 1: TPSD Challenge Program

When it comes to the Tupelo Public School District’s gifted program, Challenge, students identified as intellectually gifted are provided opportunities to delve deep into subjects, often revealing hidden talents or interests they might not have known they had. Whether our challenge teachers are giving lessons about the mind’s functions and leading students through dissection of sheep brains or teaching coding with programmable robots or guiding students to sculpt, fire and glaze their own pottery, there is always a high order of thinking involved. In our first TPSD Focus of the year, sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings and Sunny 93.3, we spotlight one of our more experienced Challenge teachers, Sherry Willis of Rankin.
