2010 TPSD Teacher of the Year - Janna FairleyFebruary 03, 2010 The Tupelo Public School District Teacher of the Year is a 26-year teaching veteran and 11-year National Board Certified Educator. She comes from a family of educators and credits her father, a professor and minister, with instilling in her a love of learning. She also remembers teachers throughout her life who provided specific instances that shaped her as a learner and an educator. As a result, one of the hallmarks of her personal philosophy is "treating everyone with respect everyday." This teacher has a passion for teaching children and realizes that it is "not about me." She sees herself in an active role as a "supporter, guide, and facilitator of students' learning." She is full of energy and enthusiasm that translates to dynamic learning experiences for her students. This year's Teacher of the Year has been honored as a CREATE Teacher of Distinction and as a Disney's American Teacher Award nominee. Inside and out of the classroom, this teacher loves being part of the "drive to make a difference." She seeks to serve where she is most needed. She has volunteered with Meals on Wheels, as a softball coach, in music camps, and in Bible School. Most of her volunteer activities revolve around children, music, and her church where she is extremely active in service. This teacher's principal praises her as a "master teacher" who has a "natural ability to reach each child." A fellow teacher remarks that she "teaches to each child's learning styles and differentiates instruction in a very successful manner." We are proud to announce that this year's Tupelo Public School District Teacher of the Year is Janna Fairley of Carver Elementary.
