The Tupelo Public School District Child Nutrition Department participates in the National School Lunch Program, established in 1946 and the School Breakfast Program, established in 1966. These federally assisted programs are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture and implemented with the State of Mississippi by the Mississippi Department of Education - Office of Child Nutrition. All schools offer nutritious breakfast and lunch meals that are planned with guidance from the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" and the USDA "Healthy School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children". Students and staff are encouraged to select healthy choices from a variety of menu items offered each day. All school menus are created centrally and are analyzed to make sure students receive their recommended daily allowances of calories and key nutrients that are appropriate to the student's age group. The Tupelo Public School District Child Nutrition Department prepares and serves an average of 6300 student breakfast and lunch meals daily. It is our goal to provide healthy, well-balanced meals to our students in order to help them achieve peak performance in the classroom.
