As a recipient of the U. S. Department of Education’s Excellence in Education Award in 1984 and 2000, Tupelo High School upholds its motto, Where Excellence Is Tradition. In 2003, Tupelo High School became 1 of only 24 public high schools in the United States to receive a chapter with the prestigious Cum Laude Society, a national organization that recognizes academic excellence in secondary schools. The excellence has manifested itself in accomplishments as diverse as the following: 58 National Merit Semifinalists since 1998, and the athletic program has received the prestigious All-Sports Award 13 times since the award's inception in 1987. Tupelo High School's ultimate objective is to maximize the available talents and resources to the greatest advantage of both the students and the community. The students are the reason for Tupelo High School's existence, and they, in turn, will shape the future of Tupelo. As principal of Tupelo High School, it's my pleasure to welcome visitors to observe first-hand the many aspects of student life that make Tupelo High School one of America's best public high schools.
