Thank you for reviewing the 2005-2006 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Report Card for Tupelo High School. As you prepare to analyze and compare our school’s data with data from the Tupelo Public School District (TPSD) and the State of Mississippi, I would like to highlight some areas for celebration while identifying other areas for focus and growth.
Let me encourage you to examine your student’s individual performance on the Mississippi Curriculum Test as his/her results compare to the various performance group(s) of which he/she is a member. As our school works to strengthen academic performance and achievement for all groups of students, please remember that within any student group, there will be students scoring at the advanced and proficient levels.

State Accreditation Data
Public schools in the State of Mississippi receive annual accreditation ratings called School Performance Classifications that are reflected by the numbers 1 (low) to 5 (superior).
Tupelo High School was recognized as one of only 228 schools to earn a School Performance Classification of Level 5 Superior-Performing.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Success for adequate yearly progress is measured by 100% of the subgroups achieving adequate yearly progress. Tupelo High School met AYP in 8 out of the 8 areas. In addition, Tupelo High School met the other academic indicator. As a result, Tupelo High School is NOT in school improvement. Our goal is to meet this standard for the 2006-2007 school year.
Tupelo High School has 96.9% of its teachers meeting the NCLB definition of highly qualified.

Group Performance Data
Reported As Percent of Students Scoring Basic and Above
The national goal for the No Child Left Behind Act is for 100% of our students to be proficient by 2014. The Mississippi Department of Education requires that school proficiency data be reported for all groups of students with 10 or more students in the group. Because of the possibility that a group of students may be represented by as few as 10 students, parents are encouraged to use the sub-group data with caution.
In the state of Mississippi, students’ scores are classified as minimal, basic, proficient, and advanced. Each score on the following pages represents a student group. At Tupelo High School there are 38 different groups that received a score. The following results were obtained:
· 29 of 38 student groups scored at least 80% Basic and Above
· 17 of 38 student groups scored at least 90% Basic and Above
These results earned by Tupelo High School students and teachers help us to better understand the goal of reaching 100% proficiency by 2014.
