TPSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Randy McCoy announced today that Fillmore Center Director Craig Shannon and Lawhon Elementary School Principal Brian Jernigan have accepted positions to serve on the central administrative staffs of two nearby North Mississippi school districts. Mr. Shannon has accepted a position as Special Assistant to the Superintendent in the Columbus Public School District, and Mr. Jernigan will become Federal Programs Director in the Monroe County School District.
Dr. McCoy commented, “Both of these men have had great success in their work with the Tupelo Public Schools. They have made outstanding contributions to the educational and social development of their students, and we deeply appreciate their service. We are sad to see them leave, but we certainly join with them in celebrating this significant advancement in their professional careers. In addition, their selection for these jobs is certainly a very positive reflection on the quality of the entire administrative staff of the Tupelo Public Schools. We are very proud of the training and opportunities that our schools are able to offer to our administrators, and we are very fortunate indeed to have such highly qualified people in positions of leadership at each of our schools.”
The process is already underway to secure replacements for these two men and for the principal’s position at Church Street Elementary School. Resumes and applications are presently being accepted. According to Dr. McCoy, “We will work diligently to find the very best people for these positions and to sustain the quality and high level of administrative performance in the Tupelo Public Schools.”
