As a parent and grandparent, I am always concerned when a student’s behavior creates a situation that is potentially harmful. Students at Tupelo Middle School recognized inappropriate behavior today and reported it to school officials.

A student brought an unloaded, small caliber handgun, found in a student’s backpack, and a pocket knife, found in a trash can, to school today. This student did not make threats toward others. When these weapons were observed by fellow students, a report was made to school authorities. This student and two other students known to have had these weapons in their possession were immediately suspended from school and turned over to the police.

We are so very proud of our students and staff who are working together to maintain a safe learning environment for all. Thank you for your continued support of the Tupelo Public School District and all of its success.
