Substitute Teachers

Arrangements for securing substitute teachers are handled by the TPSD Human Resource Department.  In order to be added to the list of approved substitute teachers, a completed application packet is required.  There are two types of Tupelo Public School District employment applications: Classified Application Packet and Licensed Application Packet.  Applications for substitute teachers are the same as regular employment applications and can be printed by clicking on the above underlined classified or licensed packet. Only Mississippi licensed applicants will use the licensed application.

You may acquire the packet by mail or in person upon request at the Tupelo Public School District's Human Resource Department (662-841-8850).  In addition to the application packet, copies of the following must be provided:

Once the above mentioned information has been collected, your name will be submitted to the Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees for approval. Upon approval, your name will then be placed on the Substitute Teachers' List.

Substitute teachers will be selected from the approved list. Those appearing on the list must be available for any assignment in any school, early childhood through grade 12, unless an exception has been documented by the Human Resource Department.   Restricted substitutes will appear on the master substitute list, but will indicate specific subject(s) and/or restrictions.

Whenever possible, calls will be made in advance. However, because the need for this service is so unpredictable, some calls may be placed with little notice until mid-morning.
