Dr. Thomas Payzant Is the Keynote Speaker for the Community Education Forum on 10-6-08
The public is invited to a special community forum at the Civic Auditorium on the Tupelo Middle School campus at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 6th. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Thomas Payzant from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Payzant is a widely recognized and honored educational leader who has served as superintendent in Portland, Oregon, Oklahoma City, San Diego and Boston public schools.
While in Tupelo he will meet with the Tupelo School Board and the Search Advisory Committee as they prepare for interviews with potential superintendent candidates to replace retiring superintendent Randy McCoy. He will also meet with the TPSD administrative team and the superintendents from the PUL Alliance school districts.
The focus of Dr. Payzant’s remarks will be the challenges public schools face nationally and internationally, best practices in facing these challenges, and the key role leadership plays related to these issues. There will be opportunity for dialogue with Dr. Payzant through a question-and-answer segment of the forum.
The Board of Trustees is indebted to the Community Development Foundation for its generous support of Dr. Payzant’s visit to Northeast Mississippi. It is our hope that the information shared and discussion encouraged by this experienced educator will inspire our Board, staff, and community members to strengthen our collective will as we partner to take this district from good to great student achievement and sustained success in the global society.
