Discussion of Rough Draft of Facilities Utilization Team Recommendations:
John Bryson presented PARAMETERS AND GUIDELINES FOR USE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES IN THE TUPELO PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
- Grow the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) and locate in on a single campus.
- Maintain the socio-economic and racial diversity percentages at a variance of no more than ± 5% of the composition of the community at each school.
- Maintain a 15:1 ratio in grades K-1 as well as implementing the school district long-range strategic plan of 15: 1 in grades 2 and 3.
- Utilize existing campuses, and have no more than four (4) schools in any grade configuration. The strategic plan and capital project needs for the district will address any additional facility requirements at each school
OR
- Utilize existing campuses, and have no more than four (4) schools in any grade configuration. The only exception may be Lawhon School. Due to geographical considerations, this location could be considered as a stand-alone school with separate grade configurations. The strategic plan and capital project needs for the district will address any additional facility requirements at each school.
Additional Considerations:
- Attempt to serve as many students as possible that reside within the walk zone of a school.
- Attempt to keep neighborhoods intact to the greatest extent possible.
- Coordinate each lower grade configuration school with a higher grade school in order that a parent will know the school that his or her children will be attending if the residence remains unchanged.
