The Tupelo Public School District is proud to announce that Lawndale Elementary Principal Dr. Terry Harbin has been selected as the 2008 Mississippi Administrator of the Year! In March Dr. Harbin was named as the TPSD Administrator of the Year, and in June he was awarded the same honor for the 1st Congressional District.
Dr. Harbin worked for some fifteen years in the private sector before beginning his career in education. He served as a fifth-grade teacher at Milam Elementary for 4 ½ years and as assistant principal at New Albany Elementary for 1 ½ years. Dr. Harbin then assumed the principal’s position at Lawndale Elementary School in July, 2006.
Dr. Harbin earned his Bachelor’s Degree in May of 2000 with certification in Elementary Education and Special Education. In 2001, he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Special Education along with certification in Gifted Education. Dr. Harbin completed his Specialist Degree program in August, 2004 and immediately began work on a doctoral degree. Dr. Harbin then received an Ed.D. in educational leadership in May, 2007.
