Topic: Diana Ezell Approved for Position of TPSD Assistant Superintendent
Overview: On Tuesday, the Board of Trustees of the Tupelo Public School District approved Church Street Elementary School Principal Diana Ezell for the position of Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Randy McCoy, Superintendent of the Tupelo Public Schools, announced Wednesday that Mrs. Ezell will assume her new responsibilities effective July 1, 2007. Mrs. Ezell, a graduate of Tupelo High School, has worked for the Tupelo Public Schools for twenty-eight years serving as a teacher, Principal of Church Street Elementary School since 1991, and TPSD Professional Development Coordinator since 2002.
Dr. McCoy commented that Mrs. Ezell’s reassignment does not reflect the creation of an additional central office administrative position. Instead, it is part of an administrative reorganization plan that is designed to assist our school district to become even more effective and efficient in its delivery of services to our students. Two administrative positions—one that has been vacant for three years and one that will be vacated at the end of the present school year will not be replaced. Dr. McCoy said: “Mrs. Ezell’s appointment as an Assistant Superintendent represents a reallocation of administrative responsibilities and existing administrative salaries within the district.”
Mrs. Ezell’s duties will primarily include the administration and coordination of teacher services such as district professional development, teacher induction programs, review of grants, career appraisals, teacher support teams, and behavioral/academic interventions. Mrs. Ezell will also work closely with current TPSD administrators in the areas of special education, psychological services, and testing.
Mrs. Ezell completed her undergraduate education at Mississippi State University, and she also earned Master of Education and Educational Specialist degrees from Mississippi State. In addition, Mrs. Ezell has been deeply involved with and committed to continuous professional training and growth throughout her career in education. Mrs. Ezell was selected as the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year in 1999, and this year was selected by her colleagues as the TPSD Administrator of the Year—an award that she also received in 1996.
