A Letter From Dr. Randy D. McCoy
To the Students, Parents, Teachers/Staff, Friends, and Supporters of the Tupelo Public Schools: The reorganization of any segment of a school district is a huge endeavor that often affects a large number of parents, students, and employees. The process affects some residents perhaps only in very small ways and others in very significant ways. The realignment of school zones may be accompanied by emotion and passionate feelings. This task is made even more complex by accidents of geography, the locations of our schools, street and neighborhood networks, and the random distribution of our students. Reorganization has a direct impact on school budgets, jobs, economic growth/stability, and the education of every student. In short, this task is a daunting and challenging undertaking. Over a year ago our community charged the Tupelo Public School District with five major challenges or goals. In addition, we know that recent economic developments in northeast Mississippi demand that the TPSD be proactive in preparing for the future educational needs of our community. This Future Excellence Plan will allow our elementary schools to accomplish these goals. It will permit us to fairly and fully utilize the student capacity of each of our schools. It will also bring an acceptable level of equity to the student populations and to the balance between poverty and non-poverty students in our schools. Most importantly, this plan will make us a better school district and will help us to be even more effective in delivering high-quality instruction to the children of the Tupelo Public School District. It should also be noted that because of the careful management of funds and advanced planning for this project by the Tupelo Public School District, it is anticipated that the construction needs required by this plan may very well be paid for without having to increase taxes or having to approve an additional bond referendum. We take great pride in the Tupelo Public Schools, and we look forward to working with you as we continue to provide our students with the best education possible. Thank you for your support of our public schools. ![]() Randy D. McCoy, Ed.D. Superintendent |
