THS Teacher Named TPSD Teacher of the Year

Date:February 04, 2008

This year’s Tupelo Public School District Teacher of the Year excels in expanding the academic, social, emotional and physical growth of her students. This candidate wanted to make a difference in the lives of others the way a special high school teacher had made a difference in her life. She believes that her contributions and accomplishments can be measured through her students. She states that “My greatest contribution to education is giving students a venue where they can build self-esteem and self-confidence, and where they can feel successful, and thus go out into the world to continue their successes.” One of her former students states that she is the “founding cornerstone for my achievement.”

Our Teacher of the Year’s enthusiasm, innovative spirit, and dedication to the arts in education are exemplary. She has been a Mississippi Thespian Director for 14 years , a Tupelo Community Theatre Board Member for 15 years, a Pied Piper Board Member and is serving as the Vice-President/President Elect for the Educational Theatre Association. In addition, she also served as a cheerleader sponsor for many years.

She and her students have made presentations at state, regional, and national theatre conferences. She maintains a love and enthusiasm for teaching, and for 35 years she has been a leader in the teaching profession. She is truly an inspiration to her students, their parents, and her peers.

We are extremely proud to announce the 2007-08 Tupelo Public School teacher of the Year is Ms. Debby Gibbs.
