Pinwheels for peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers in Coconut, Florida, as a way for students to express their feelings concerning the world and their lives. The project was quickly embraced and is now celebrated all over the world every year on International Day of Peace. In 2007, 1.2 million pinwheels were planted. A pinwheel is a childhood symbol-it reminds us of a time when things were simple, joyful, peaceful. Here at Parkway, we want to embrace happy children and let peace, tolerance, cooperation, harmony and unity rule at our school. Parkway students will celebrate Pinwheels for Peace on Monday, September 22. We will have a parade and then plant our pinwheels on the school grounds for all to enjoy.
