Built in 1937, Church Street Elementary School was the first elementary school in the Tupelo Public School District. Church Street School has had two historic visitors, President Franklin Roosevelt and President Harry S Truman. A scale model of this Art Deco structure was displayed at the 1939 New York World's Fair as "the ideal elementary school". The building, built through the Works Projects Administration, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Church Street School is one of seven schools that serve children in grades kindergarten through three. Currently, there are approximately 255 students served by Church Street Elementary in grades K-3.
