Watermelons!
Our 3rd grade students have really enjoyed studying about watermelons! They learned how watermelons go from seeds to picnic tables everywhere. Teachers used watermelons in their science lessons to teach students about how watermelon seeds grow into watermelons. Then during their social studies lessons, the kids learned the process by which watermelons go from the watermelon farmers to their own homes. Watermelons were also incorporated into spelling and language lessons. After all that learning, the kids ate red, juicy watermelon on a hot, summer day. The event ended with a very competitive seed spitting contest!
