Research has repeatedly shown that parental involvement is one of the most critical factors determining academic success. For this reason, the Mississippi Board of Education has established an awards program to recognize parents active in school improvement efforts.
The Tupelo Public School District is indebted to the parents and grandparents of our students who provide countless volunteer hours in support of all students, teachers and administrators.
As a part of the Parent of the Year Program, each district in the state of Mississippi is asked to select one Parent of the Year. From the outstanding pool of Parents of the Year chosen by individual schools, an outside independent committee chooses the Tupelo Public School District Parent of the Year. State recipients will be chosen by a selection committee composed of teachers, administrators and parents, who will evaluate the applications.
We are pleased to announce the 2008 Tupelo Public School District Parent of the Year. This individual exemplifies parental involvement. Through her own actions, she teaches traditional values such as love, kindness, sharing, and thoughtfulness. She is one of the biggest supporters of our school’s recycling efforts, founder of Project Partners to assist students in need, and coordinates the teacher and staff school appreciation activities. Our Parent of the Year is a planner, organizer, implementer, and her enthusiasm is contagious, and was chosen to represent Church Street Elementary by every faculty member.
